Bachelor’s Degree

Studying for a Bachelor’s Degree

A bachelor’s degree is the most popular study method upon graduating high school. Usually a four-year course, and with a wide choice of subjects, this is the first step in furthering your education beyond a high school diploma.

Should you consider studying for a bachelor’s degree? You may want to do so for many reasons, especially if you have a defined career path in mind. Many professions require a bachelor’s degree as a minimum qualification, so achieving such a level will open doors to many job opportunities.

We want to talk about why a bachelor's degree may be a sensible program to follow and the options you have when choosing an appropriate course.

What to Expect When Studying for a Bachelor’s Degree

A bachelor’s degree will involve studying a specific subject and a broad selection of other general education modules such as English, mathematics, and social sciences. The aim is to give the student a greater understanding of these areas of study.

There are three main types of bachelor’s degrees, these being:

-        Bachelor of Arts (BA) is the type that covers the broadest reach of subjects. The BA focuses less on one core subject and more on the wider liberal arts. It is designed to give an overall education and is often welcomed as a qualification for entry-level professional roles. Generally, the subjects chosen will be English, art, communications, and music.

-        Bachelor of Science (BS) is a more defined study program generally undertaken by those with a definite career in mind. Typical areas of study include biology, computer science, and business studies.

-        Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFS) is a degree aimed at those who wish to enter the creative arts professionally, including musicians, artists, writers, actors, and dancers.

The choice of degree will depend upon the individual. Bear in mind that costs will vary, and it is worth investigating the different areas of study. In summary, a BA is the best choice if you are undecided on a future career, while a BS is for those with a profession in mind.

One further piece of advice is to consider studying for a degree online. This can be a cost-effective method of advancing your education and is popular with people who are already working and want to add to their qualifications. Some courses combine online study with on-campus programs that are worthy of consideration.

Choosing Your Bachelor’s Degree

We hope the above explains your options for studying for a bachelor's degree. We should also add the possibility of beginning your studies with an associate's degree. This is a two-year course that can be followed at a community college, junior college, or vocational school, following which you can convert into a bachelor's degree with a further two years of study at a university.

Also, be aware that some high-level professional roles demand a master’s degree, which follows from a bachelor's degree. Begin your research now, and you’ll soon find the right degree.

Our history is tied to America’s success

American International College (AIC) was founded on July 18, 1885. It was chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on September 18, 1885, with the purpose of educating immigrants who were coming to America through New York. That’s where our commitment to diversity, flexibility, and understanding began. They came to America to pursue a dream and AIC was founded to ensure their success.

AIC Today

American International College is a private, coeducational, four-year comprehensive institution located in the geographic center of Springfield, Massachusetts. Liberal arts serves as the core of our academic offerings. The College comprises the School of Business, Arts & Sciences, the School of Education, and the School of Health Sciences.

American International College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (formerly the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc.).

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the Commission indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the Commission is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.
